Friday, August 15: Billion Oyster Project Tour on Governors Island with Asly Ventura
Please join us for our summer event, Billion Oyster Project Tour on Governors Island with Asly Ventura on Friday, August 15 at 2 PM.
RESERVATIONS: This event is FREE, including the ferry ticket to Governors Island! However, reservations are required in order to attend and receive a free ferry ticket! Please RSVP by sending an email to metropolitannaturalhistory@gmail.com. NB: Reservations must be made by August 7, in order to guarantee a free ferry ticket to Governors Island. Facebook and Meetup ''attendance" will NOT be considered as a reservation. Please note, in the event of rain, this event will be postponed.
LOCATION: The event will take place on Governors Island. Once your reservation is confirmed, details on the meeting point will be emailed to you.
EVENT DESCRIPTION: We will visit Governors Island to learn about oysters, including their ecology, reproductive cycle, and important role in NYC's history. The Billion Oyster Project is working to restore 1 billion oysters into our harbor by 2035 and is active in their conservation. Asly Ventura, Public Outreach Coordinator at the Billion Oyster Project, will lead the tour and describe the successes and challenges of the project thus far.
Asly Ventura (she/her), serves as the Public Outreach Coordinator in the Community Engagement Department at the Billion Oyster Project. In this role, she hosts events and programs designed for the general public, providing an accessible introduction to the organization. She develops engaging activities for various public programs and events that cater to all ages, aiming to foster personal connections between New Yorkers and their local ecology. As a proud alumni of the New York Harbor School, Asly is dedicated to inspiring local communities—especially younger generations—to participate in environmental stewardship through initiatives like Billion Oyster Project.
